JUMP is always looking for volunteers of all ages and from all walks of life and volunteering as a mentor for JUMP is one of the most things you can do, It's simple too.
Thinking about volunteering with JUMP, but wondering what you have to offer a young person? A LOT!
Your time and attention is worth more to a young person than you realise. Being a mentor is about spending quality one-on-one time with a young person, enjoying all sorts of activities together and working through agreed session plans. Sometimes it’s as easy as taking your young person along with you to something you were going to do anyway – like lunch. You’ve got to eat, right?
We plan to match you up with your young person depending on the young persons needs and interests. Making the right match is important to JUMP to ensure success. Once matched, you will work through mentoring plans and do activities together that you are both interested in. Each match if fully supported by the professional staff at JUMP and you will have full support whenever you need it.
You and your young person can share the kinds of activities you already like to do, such as:
- Watching a film
- Playing and watching games
- Sports e.g. boxing, canoing, tennis, skating etc
- Enjoying a pizza
- Beauty therapy
- Photography
- Listening and making music
- Just hanging out and talking can make a huge difference for a young person
And much more.
The activities don’t have to cost a lot and we will cover any expenses. It’s not about spending money, it’s about spending time, giving guidance, support and caring.
JUMP volunteers are regular people just like you. You don’t have to have any qualifications or experience as full accredited training will be given, all we ask is that you have an open mind and a listening ear.
A mentor can open a world of possibilities for a young person simply by being there.
JUMP is simple and rewarding. It is easy to show your young person how to play a few games, have a laugh, play some sports or read together. Being someone special to a young person takes little more than that, but the impact is huge for both of you! JUMP is flexible and will fit into your schedule so that you can do as many or few hours as you like.
Young people need the motivation, support and guidance from someone like you!
Volunteering just
4 hours a month can change a young person's life.
